Top move: Anna Betts is now in charge of all internal and external relations at Holden after spending almost two years as the company’s senior manager of internal communications and CSR.

GM HOLDEN has appointed Anna Betts as its new director of communications, replacing Sean Poppitt who is relocating to Bangkok at the end of this year to become senior manager of communications for parent General Motors’ South-East Asia region.

Ms Betts moves up from her current role as senior manager of internal communications and CSR (corporate social responsibility), a position she has held since early 2016.

This has included community support activities at Holden and the public relations activity around Holden’s closure of its Australian manufacturing facilities last month.

She previously worked for Melbourne Water for approximately five years, starting in 2011 as an internal communications adviser before rising to employee engagement adviser and, in December 2014, internal communications and employee experience manager.

Earlier in her career, Ms Betts worked for the Australian Red Cross, British Heart Foundation and PR agency Thrive.

The new role sees Ms Betts responsible for all internal and external communications at Holden, reporting directly to chairman and managing director Mark Bernhard.

The department will also be bolstered by the addition of Megan Lloyd who moves from her previous Adelaide-based role as corporate affairs manager for South Australia and Western Australia to Holden’s Melbourne headquarters, taking responsibility for all corporate and brand communications.

Mark Flintoft remains in charge of product communications – now as a senior manager – while senior manager of external communications Haydn Lane has left the company.

Mr Poppitt was appointed to the top PR job at Holden in February 2015, having held a range of product and corporate communications positions since joining the company in 2011.

These included senior manager of corporate communications and corporate affairs manager for South Australia and Western Australia, based at the company’s former Elizabeth manufacturing operations in Adelaide.

He previously worked in corporate affairs for Audi Australia after moving into public relations from journalism.
