HONDA’S “power of dreams” testament has led to more than $10 million in donations through its Honda Foundation and the car-maker’s Australian customers.

For every car sold, Honda Australia donates $10 and the dealer gives $5. The result is a donation milestone achieved this month of $10 million since the foundation started 25 years ago.

The Honda Foundation this month presented the Alannah & Madeline Foundation with a $5000 donation towards its Buddy Bags initiative, which has helped more than 60,000 children around the country since 2007.

This foundation works to protect and care for children who have experienced or witnessed violence, and was established in memory of Alannah and Madeline Mikac, who were tragically killed in 1996 during the Port Arthur massacre in Tasmania.

One of the most significant beneficiaries of The Honda Foundation has been the Perth Children’s Hospital, which has received funding totalling almost $90,000 over more than 21 years.

The most recent grant of $11,200 will provide much needed pulse oximeters to help monitor seriously ill children who require tracheostomies to breathe.

The Honda Foundation chairman and Honda Australia director, Stephen Collins, said he was extremely proud that in its 25 years, the foundation had made a significant difference in the lives of thousands of people across Australia.

“This would hot have occurred without the support of our customers and our dealers,” he said.

“We are extremely proud that the grants from the foundation and our generous Honda dealers have supported 700 charities nationwide to help drive people’s dreams to a brighter tomorrow.

“The Honda slogan ‘Power of Dreams’ is not just a tag line; it has significant meaning in the communities we’ve supported.”

In its 25 years, the foundation funds have been granted between the states with around $2.6 million to New South Wales; more than $2.5 million to Victoria; more than $2.5 million to Queensland; more than $550,000 to Western Australia; around $350,000 to South Australia; more than $170,000 to Tasmania and around $65,000 to the Northern Territory.
