ATECO Automotive’s distributorship of BYD Auto NZ is building up with six new dealerships poised to open in the next few months.

Ateco has 19 BYD dealers in New Zealand and will add six more to improve sales access to buyers and to make it easier for existing owners for servicing and parts availability.

The expansion is also in response to growing sales of its electrified range and will also complement new-model arrivals into 2027.

BYD Auto NZ general manager Warren Willmot said the growing dealer network “reinforced its long-term commitment to delivering innovative, low-emission mobility  solutions to Kiwi drivers”.

“The aim is to make it easier than ever for New Zealanders to access, test and own the world’s best-selling electric and hybrid vehicles,” he said.

The expansion comes as NZ’s electrified vehicle uptake continues to accelerate and Ateco-BYD said it was well-positioned to meet growing demand by “offering a vehicle for every New Zealander”. 

The additional BYD dealerships are:

South Auckland: A brand-new super site showroom; BYD South Auckland, opened July 7 in Manukau. The 10,000 square metre facility, owned by the Andrew Simms Group, has a state-of-the-art showroom along with a full after-sales space designed to transform the electric vehicle experience for customers across South Auckland and beyond.  

Invercargill: The Andrew Simms Group will also be opening a dedicated BYD Showroom in Invercargill shortly,  bringing sales, service and aftersales support to the Southland region. Pukekohe: Ebbetts Pukekohe, based at 6 Svendsen Road, has joined the BYD network with its range of electric vehicles for buyers in the Franklin region. 

Wellington CBD: At the bottom of the North Island, Automarque BYD will be opening right in the centre of the capital, in mid-July at 55 Featherston Street, Wellington CBD.  The new  showroom compliments Automarque’s sister property in Lower Hutt.

Wairarapa & Christchurch: The fifth BYD dealership will be Colonial Motor Company, New Zealand’s oldest and one of the most respected NZ dealer groups that started out building horse-drawn carriages  in 1859. It will be opening in Q3 of this year as Adventure Motors in the Wairarapa along with a new BYD dealership to be based in Hornby, Christchurch. 

Mr Willmot said that this expansion will ensure complete access to sales, servicing, and parts support for customers across both metropolitan and regional New Zealand, to complement significant model arrivals that will  continue in 2026 and into 2027.
