BMW Australia has named and honoured its top-performing dealerships of 2020 in its annual Dealer of the Year (DOTY) awards with the top prize going to Hornsby BMW (Wahroonga, NSW).

Like many other brands, BMW Australia opted to host the 2020 awards digitally in respect to the still-mandatory social distancing regulations and the only recently opened state borders.

BMW’s DOTY awards encompass four main categories on top of the overall best-performer, acknowledging both the winner and runner-up across all four with the winners determined by sales, customer service and commitment to the BMW Group.

Not only did Hornsby BMW take the top overall honours, it also won Metropolitan 2 Dealer of the Year category ahead of Motorline BMW (Daisy Hill, QLD).

BMW Sydney (NSW) meanwhile was named Major Metro Dealer of the Year ahead of Brisbane BMW (QLD) while Blacklocks Prestige in Lavington (NSW) beat Townsville BMW (QLD) to secure Rural Dealer of the Year.

The Provincial Dealer of the Year award went to Worthington BMW (Somersby, NSW) ahead of Coastline BMW (Currimundi, QLD).

According to BMW Group Australia CEO Wolfgang Buechel, the awards are an important occasion in acknowledging the efforts of the entire network, especially in the wake of such challenging trading conditions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The BMW and Mini dealer network demonstrated impressive commitment to excellence across every aspect of their business over the past year,” he said.

“This dedication was reflected in sales success but just as importantly in the areas of professionalism, leadership and management practices with a customer-driven mindset.”

Part of the wider group awards are the Mini Excellence awards which are broken down into four different ‘groups’ which reference the dealers’ operation size and volume with Groups One and Two being the bigger metro operations while three and four are typically more rural.

Queensland dealerships ruled the roost in 2020 with Brisbane Mini Garage, Motorline Mini Garage, Coastline Mini Garage and Townsville Mini Garage taking home top honours in Groups One, Two, Three and Four respectively.

Sales of both BMW and Mini are down 7.8 (3642) and 4.3 (518) per cent respectively so far this year ending February compared to the 3950 and 541 units they shifted over the same period last year.
