CarExpert will next week present findings from their latest consumer report into new-car buyer trends that indicates strong purchase intentions and a growing willingness to consider a range of vehicle options.
The research report, titled ‘The Road to Purchase: An Overview of the Australian New Car Buyer’, is the second to be launched by media group CarExpert.
Results will be the subject of a livestreamed event on November 28 with expert commentary from an industry panel that includes the Australian Automotive Dealer Association (AADA) CEO James Voortman and research agency Nielsen along with CarExpert presenting the key findings and headlines. The second report by CarExpert was conducted through Nielsen with a nationally representative sample of more than 1000 car buyers and intenders.
The research shows that 2025 will continue to be a buyer’s market with the majority (57 per cent) of new-car intenders stating their choices are three or more vehicles, up 12 per cent on the number of intenders in 2023. Buyers continue to spend between three and four months researching their purchase decision.
The reception to electric vehicles has waned with almost one-in-six survey respondents closed to the purchase of an EV for now. This is down from one in eight in 2023. Only 65 per cent of new-car buyers and intenders say they have only a minor understanding of the differences between various modes of electrification.
CarExpert CEO Damon Rielly noted that the industry lacked a partner who could provide consumer-led insights regularly, particularly at the top of the funnel.
“We believe these insights are more critical than ever as the number of car brands swells to 60-plus, despite stagnating new car sales,” he said.
“Our launch event will feature the most up-to-date overview of Australian new car buyers in the market and is a must-see for anyone in the automotive industry.”
CarExpert said it is expecting strong representation from across the automotive industry at the event.
The launch event is by registration only and is aimed at professionals in the automotive sector. The online event commences at 3pm AEDT on Thursday, 28th November.
