BYD will be one of the first Chinese brands to have a presence on the prestigious Doncaster Road in Melbourne’s east after dealer group Harmony announced it is opening a new showroom.

BYD Doncaster will be operated by Harmony Auto Group, the Chinese automotive retailer that partners with BYD in regions of Asia Pacific, Europe and Australia. It has more than 80 BYD and Denza dealerships in those markets.Renovation is now being completed at the two-storey corner property at 888 Doncaster Road that is owned by Melbourne Auto Collective and Barry Bourke Motors executive Darren Bourke.

The eastern section of Doncaster Road, 20km from Melbourne’s CBD, has prestigious automotive operations including Autosports Group and brands including Porsche, BMW, Audi and Jaguar Land Rover. 

Real Estate Source reported that Mr Bourke bought the property earlier this year for $8.8 million. Late last year, Barry Bourke Motors sold 10 car dealerships to Autosports, including JLR Doncaster.

The property covers 1863 square metres and has two levels including a basement carpark. Its previous tenants were real estate and financial services businesses.BYD has also moved its Melbourne operations into an industrial estate in Bayswater and its premium sub-brand Denza has leased property in an industrial area in Alexandria, Sydney to complement its headquarters in Macquarie Park.
