THE Australian distributor of BYD Automotive, EVDirect, has appointed Phil Wong as chief financial officer (CFO).

He joins EVDirect from Ateco Group where he was strategic business development manager for more than two years.

Mr Wong was previously corporate planning manager of electric vehicles and new business at Hyundai Motor Company Australia.

He also was financial planning and analysis controller at Ateco before moving to Hyundai, along with other roles at Ateco, including group accounting manager and company accountant.

Mr Wong is CPA qualified and a member of the Governance Institute of Australia. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Macquarie University.

His appointment follows key staff joining the company earlier this year.

EVDirect in February appointed David Smitherman as CEO. He was previously general manager of strategy at Ateco and, prior to that, CEO of Ateco’s Fiat Chrysler New Zealand business.

EVDirect also appointed Kate Hornstein as head of marketing in February. She joins from Dyson where she was senior marketing manager of its haircare division.
