AUSTRALIA Post has joined in the celebrations of Ford Australia’s 100th year by releasing four limited-edition stamps featuring iconic Ford models from the past century.

Attractive for die-hard Ford enthusiasts through to the keen philatelist, the four stamps – each with a face value of $1.70 – have been designed by Sharon Rodziewicz of Australia Post Design Studio and accurately rendered by Hughes Motorsport Art.The first stamp features the Model T, the first Ford to be produced at the Geelong assembly plant in 1925. The others are the XP Falcon, chosen because it is regarded as an Aussie icon of the mid-60s.

The XP made headlines in 1965 as it completed a gruelling 112,000 km (70,000 mile), nine-day durability track test at Ford’s You Yangs proving ground near Geelong.

It was the first Australian car to win the Wheels ‘Car of the Year’ award. Ford made 70,998 XP Falcons in Brisbane and Melbourne between 1965 and 1966.

The third stamp shows the XA Falcon GT which was the first fully Australian-designed and built Falcon when launched in 1972. The GT was the poster child of 1970s Australian muscle car culture thanks to its back-to-back Bathurst wins, 351 cubic-inch Cleveland V8 engine and segment-defining “coke-bottle” body styling.

The fourth stamp is the FG X Falcon XR8 which was the final series of V8-powered Falcon to come off the Broadmeadows assembly line between October 2014 and October 2016.
