JAMES Frizelle’s Automotive Group is investing more than $4 million in its Tweed European dealership in answer to a rise in the number of young professionals in its prime marketing area (PMA).

The group is redeveloping its site near the Tweed City shopping centre in New South Wales’ northern suburbs with expanded showrooms for its Volkswagen franchise already complete. A similar development for its adjoining Chrysler Jeep Dodge business is next.

Dealership general manager Chris Garland said the investment is based on predictions for a population increase in the Tweed Heads area and a shift in demographics.

“We want to make sure we are changing with the times,” he said.

“We are investing in new, modern showrooms and service centres across the region to cater to the growing number of buyers expected to be living here in the near future.”

Tweed Shire Council data shows the population has passed 90,000 and is expected to reach 125,000 by 2036, including almost 9000 people aged 20-45.

High house prices in capital cities were leading to an increase in the number of young people moving to regions like Tweed Heads, made attractive by its coastal lifestyle at a more affordable price.

“A lot of young people are moving into new housing developments in the region where they can enjoy a relatively low cost of living while also being close to two cities and a major airport,” Mr Garland said.

The Tweed European dealership had noticed the change in buyers in recent years.

“In the last five years we’ve doubled our staff and our volume,” Mr Garland said.

“The Tweed market has grown more than six per cent this year and this is set to continue.

“Demand for our brands – Volkswagen, Chrysler Jeep Dodge and Hyundai – and an expanding range of vehicles has meant that larger and more modern facilities are required.

“It’s an exciting time to be living and doing business in the region.”
