JOWETT Motor Group (JMG) has expanded its network with two new Geely showrooms in Melbourne.
The showrooms, which open on March 3, are within existing dealerships and are south and north of the Melbourne CBD at Epping and Gardenvale.
JMG said the expansion was strategic to further strengthen its commitment to offering customers a range of brands and vehicle types. “It also caters for customers while enhancing its presence in the rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) market,” said JMG COO Brett Jakes.
It is the first time JMG has taken on Geely as a franchise. The two Geely showrooms are stand-alone but on the same sites as JMG’s Honda dealerships.
Mr Jakes said the dedicated showrooms will offer Geely’s vehicle range and offer full-service facilities for Geely owners.
“This expansion allows us to bring some of the most advanced and sustainable vehicles to our customers, supporting our ongoing commitment to providing exceptional value and innovative automotive design to customers,” he said.
JMG‘s Geely dealerships in Melbourne are: Geely Brighton, 229 Nepean Hwy, Gardenvale; and Geely Epping at 100 Cooper St, Epping.JMG, which has BMW, Mini, Honda and Chery dealerships in Victoria, South Australia and the ACT, is also nearing the completion of a major renovation of its BMW and Mini dealership in Glenelg in South Australia.
The dealer group more recently bought Canberra BMW and Mini and the Audi Centre Canberra.
Geely, one of China’s biggest car-makers, will offer a range of EV and ICE vehicles in the Australian market from next month.
It announced its initial dealer network of seven outlets in December 2024 and the appointment of NZ distribution company Giltrap Group to supply NZ dealers.
The Australian dealer groups are:
- BalancedBrick International, Queensland
- GWS Automotive Group, Victoria,
- James Frizelle’s Automotive Group, Queensland
- Kevin Dennis Motors, Victoria
- Knox Auto, Victoria
- Peter Warren Automotive, NSW
- Rex Gorell, Victoria
JMG now adds to that list with more dealers for NZ and other Australian states to be announced later.
Geely in November 2024 held a ‘strategic partnership signing ceremony’ in Sydney to mark its official entry into the Australia and New Zealand markets.
Geely said it planned a network covering showrooms across major cities and regional areas in 2025 “including an Australian-based management team, strong aftersales support and an extensive product pipeline.”
“Partnering with local expertise, Geely Auto aims to deliver comprehensive one-stop services and inclusive mobility solutions without compromise,” it said in a statement.
In NZ, the partnership with the Giltrap Group adds the Geely brand to Giltrap’s existing franchises of Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus.
