Moving on: After spending three years as Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s chief operating officer, Scott Grant has decided to pursue interests outside the industry.

HYUNDAI Motor Company Australia (HMCA) chief operating officer Scott Grant has resigned after nearly four-and-a-half years’ service, with the Korean company now on the hunt for his successor.

While Mr Grant’s next move is yet to be announced, HMCA said he will “pursue a career passion outside the automotive industry”, bringing to an end his 31-year run in the sector.

As a result, HMCA will now start its search for a new COO, which could be an internal or external hire.

In the interim, Mr Scott’s former leadership team will report directly to the company’s chief executive officer, JW Lee.

According to Mr Grant, the decision to leave HMCA was bittersweet, but he believes the company will continue to go from strength to strength in his absence.

Leaving Hyundai and an industry I have worked in or around for over 30 years isn’t easy, and I have been fortunate to have many great friends,” he said.

I feel Hyundai has some of its best years ahead with outstanding product and an ever-maturing organisation. Hyundai is truly becoming a global player and innovator with untapped possibilities.”

Commenting on Mr Grant’s departure, Mr Lee said his efforts were appreciated while reiterating that HMCA’s future is bright despite the key leadership change.

Having personally worked with Scott for the past two years, I have always valued his contribution and leadership,” he said.

“Whilst I am disappointed that we will lose Scott’s talent and experience, I am pleased for him that he will have the opportunity to follow his career dream.

“Equally, I am happy to say that HMCA is well positioned for success and the senior leadership team is well placed to execute plans driving the next phase of sustainable growth.”

Mr Grant joined HMCA as its sales director in November 2014, before being promoted to COO in December 2015.

During his tenure, HMCA’s annual sales fell from 102,004 units in 2015 to 101,555 in 2016, 97,013 in 2017 and 94,187 in 2018.

Prior to working at HMCA, Mr Grant held leadership positions at Holden Special Vehicles (May 2007 to July 2008), Lexus Australia (January 2004 to January 2007) and Toyota Australia (1990 to 1998 and January 2002 to January 2004).
