GUMTREE Cars has launched a new partnership with Carinspect as an additional offering to car buyers looking to purchase a privately-listed car.

The strategic partnership means that buyers can easily access fully-qualified and insured mobile mechanics who will conduct a thorough pre-purchase car inspection.

Gumtree Group CEO Tommy Logtenberg said the partnership highlighted its potential to deliver greater value and certainty to consumers and attract more car buyers to the platform.

“Carinspect offers peace of mind to those buying a car through our platform and makes sure that consumers are getting exactly what they are paying for,” Mr Logtenberg said.

“We see around 25,000 private car listings each month so we know how popular this key category is for our platform users.”

“Through Carinspect’s industry leading technology, our car buyers can book pre-purchase inspections quickly and easily, with a report delivered right to their inbox once the inspection is complete.”

“It is important our consumers are confident in what they are purchasing, especially when investing in something as important as a car. This partnership means anyone buying a car from a private listing on Gumtree is confident all the checks and balances are in place.”The Carinspect service will only be offered to those looking to buy a car through private listings, not through dealer used vehicles. Buyers will be able to book the Carinspect service directly through the Gumtree Cars website.

“This partnership is another strategic move by Gumtree Cars to provide our consumers with fresh new products creating a better user experience.” Mr Logtenberg said.

“This is a major boost for our platform and will support us in continuing our record growth in this category. We have made great strides in improving the platform and I will be unveiling more initiatives for Gumtree users in the coming months.”

Melbourne-based Carinspect said its new partnership with The Market Limited (MKT) which owns Gumtree Cars was a bid to “take the unknown out of buying second-hand vehicles, with fully qualified mechanics performing hassle free pre-purchase inspections”.

The partnership, which will initially roll out in WA before expanding to NSW and VIC over three months, allows Gumtree customers to easily verify the condition of a vehicle they intend to buy.

Co-founder of Carinspect, Zasch Weiler said that teaming up with Gumtree is a great boost for Australia’s used-car buying community, who can now shop with the confidence and essential insights every used-car buyer deserves to have.

“We founded Carinspect in response to the industry gap in efficient and trustworthy buyer support. Our mission is to deliver easy-to-understand inspection reports and insights from a network of the best mechanics around the country.

“Our service identifies worn brakes and tyres, oil and coolant leaks, diagnostic faults and much, much more. We make it possible for non-car-people to know exactly what they’re buying,” Mr Zasch said.

“Carinspect has always been about making it easy for anyone to obtain expert advice. Together with my co-founder Paul Podbury, we drive this operation with the hopes of becoming Australia’s used car buyers companion.

“We don’t just examine the car in front of us, our mechanics draw on their own extensive knowledge of car makes and models to help buyers look out for common issues or faults in that specific vehicle type, providing a holistic perspective that helps them to make the right decision.”

The platform offers a full suite of car buying support services for its customers. These include CarHistory vehicle reports, used car extended warranties, interstate car transport and financial services.

The industry of used-car sales in Australia is worth $39.9 billion, with inspection and ancillary services making up $800 million of this figure. After completing inspections for well over 10,000 used car buyers, Carinspect is poised to grow its influence with new access to Gumtree customers.

It claims to be the largest pre-purchase inspection network in the country. Carinspect says it engages more than 100 fully-vetted and qualified mechanics nationally on both a contractual and permanent basis.

Mr Logtenberg said that Gumtree already sees an average of 20,000 to 25,000 private car listings each month.

“Through Carinspect’s industry leading tech, buyers can book in pre-purchase inspections quickly and easily, with the car inspection report arriving in their inbox instantly after the inspection has been completed,” he said.

“Car buyers will be able to link off to Carinspect’s online booking tool via the private seller’s car listing on Gumtree Cars.

“The partnership is part of a wider plan being implemented by MKT to enhance customer experiences.

“We look forward to unveiling further progress on other initiatives developed within our whole-of-company strategy in the coming months,” Mr Logtenberg said.

He said that for MKT shareholders the inspection service establishes further revenue opportunities, contributing to greater shareholder value.

Gumtree Group says it connects people as they buy, sell and transact across more than two million live listings. Gumtree, together with CarsGuide and Autotrader, creates a powerful network of three iconic brands, reaching 6+ million Australians each month while generating over $3b+ in monthly gross listing volume.

Melbourne-based Carinspect specialises in pre-purchase inspections of used vehicles for consumers and businesses. The company’s nationwide network of qualified motor mechanics offers its used vehicle inspection services in all capital cities and in numerous regional and coastal centres along Australia’s eastern seaboard.

Carinspect also offers various car-buying support services for its customers, such as CarHistory vehicle reports, vehicle transport, extended vehicle warranties and financial services.
