HYUNDAI Motor UK has sold five cars in the first five days of launching an experimental online sales tool that offers the choice of five new models with fixed prices, no price haggling and a home delivery service.

It said the online site, Click To Buy, can allow a customer to research and buy a new Hyundai in less than five minutes when purchasing with cash.

Hyundai Motor UK calls Click To Buy “the next step” to its involvement with innovative shopping centre car retailer, Rockar.

The site opened for business in the UK in early January after being announced in November as the first time its customers had access to an online new-car purchase program. However, GoAutoNews Premium is aware that the concept is available from Tesla and Smart. It has previously been offered by companies including Vauxhall, Seat and Citroen.

Hyundai Motor Company Australia public relations general manager Bill Thomas said while there were no immediate plans to introduce the service into Australia, the UK model was being closely monitored.

Click To Buy allows online purchases of Hyundai’s i10, i20, i30, Tucson and Santa Fe models at fixed prices. The company said more models will be added during the year.

The site gives customers a trade-in price for their car, allows the use of trade-in funds towards the new car purchase, configures the new car to the customer’s requests, adds accessories and service plans, arranges finance and accepts a deposit.

Hyundai said configurations and finance valuations can be saved for up to 14 days to allow the customer a cooling-off period.

The finance arrangements can then be completed online. Customers using cash can collect the car at their preferred dealership or opt for home delivery.

Hyundai said that home delivery is also available to customers buying through finance, although finance paperwork will need to be signed beforehand at a local dealership.

Trade-in cars can either be taken to the dealership on the selected handover date, or will be collected from the customer if home delivery has been chosen.

Customers can also choose to collect their new car in the evening and at weekends from participating dealerships.

Hyundai Motor UK president and chief executive Tony Whitehorn said the online site was simple, intuitive and can save customers valuable time.

“In fact, if you’re paying by cash, the entire online process is possible to complete in about the same time as it would take to refuel your car,” he said.

“Through fixed pricing, the site also removes the need to negotiate which is a real benefit for those who feel uncomfortable doing so or simply don’t have the time.

“This is a pivotal time for the car industry as a whole and the start of what I think will be a transformative period in terms of how people buy and own cars going forward.”

Hyundai Motor UK head of PR, Natasha Waddington, told GoAutoNews Premium that five cars had been sold off the site within five days of its launch.
