THE Jowett Motor Group has bought two Canberra dealerships on the same day it has closed the deal on buying a third dealership, the Canberra BMW group.

The family-owned JMG settled on its purchase of Canberra BMW group – announced in June this year – while reporting it had this week bought Audi Centre Canberra and 4×4 Canberra Ineos Grenadier.

The company said in a statement: “With this announcement, it presents a significant opportunity to deliver our award-winning retail experiences to customers, while creating job opportunities for the automotive industry in the nation’s capital.”

Audi Centre Canberra has been a family-owned business operated by Richard Rolfe Motors Pty Ltd for almost two decades. JMG will officially take over all existing operations and acquire the property on October 1, 2024.In June, JMG said it had bought the Canberra BMW group – consisting of Canberra BMW, Canberra Mini Garage and Canberra BMW Motorrad – also from Richard Rolfe Motors.

Now JMG has added Audi to its brand list for the second time. 

Company founder and managing director Tony Jowett said in a statement: “It is exciting to work with new OEMs in Audi, a brand I am familiar with from early in my career, and Ineos.”

“The JMG team and I are excited to welcome Audi Centre Canberra and Canberra Ineos Grenadier to the family.”

Audi Centre Canberra has been a family-owned business operated by Richard Rolfe Motors Pty Ltd for almost two decades. It is located at 132 Melrose Drive, Phillip and 38 Parramatta Street, Phillip.

Mr Jowett said that the JMG executive team remained committed to fostering growth and excellence in the automotive retail operations sector. 

“The expansion into Australian Capital Territory presents many opportunities to deliver our award-winning retail experiences for customers, while creating job opportunities for the  automotive industry and current JMG employees,” he said.

Jowett Motor Group (JMG) started in 1995 by Tony Jowett with brands Audi, Volkswagen and Subaru. It then opened Eastern Honda Doncaster in 2000.

JMG has continued as a family-owned and operated business with its award-winning group of BMW and Honda dealerships across Victoria, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory. 

It is an established retail partner of Honda Australia and Chery Australia, operating three metro Honda centres of Eastern Honda, Northern Honda and Brighton Honda Centre and Chery Doncaster. 

JMG has been recognised by Honda with multiple national Dealer of the Year and Customer  Excellence awards, to now leading national sales and service volumes. 

In 2013 JMG opened its first BMW dealership, Waverley BMW and later acquired South Yarra BMW in 2020. 

This was followed by the greenfield development of Berwick BMW opening in late 2020 and the recent introduction of Berwick Mini Garage. 

In 2021 it opened Glenelg BMW and Mini Garage, South Australia. A full redevelopment of the Glenelg site is underway and is due for completion in the second half of 2025. 

The fifth BMW dealership was Canberra BMW, Mini and Motorrad in September 2024. 

Like the Honda Centres, the JMG BMW sites have been multi-award winning businesses including 2023 Major Metro BMW Dealer of the Year.
