JOWETT Motor Group will open its fourth BMW dealership next month with a new outlet in Adelaide as it plans for a total site redevelopment to feature the latest BMW corporate identity and fit-out.

Glenelg BMW, which will become Adelaide’s second BMW dealership after Eagers Automotive’s Adelaide BMW, will be located on the site of Dave Potter Honda, a franchise bought by Jowett Motor Group in early 2018.

The new BMW franchise business will also include Mini, but not BMW’s motorcycle division Motorrad.

The dealership, which had been a Honda dealer-of-the-year recipient for consecutive years, ceased being a Honda franchise under the brand’s recent change to an agency sales model.

Dave Potter Honda’s dealer principal, Tom Archontidis, will head up Glenelg BMW along with most of the Honda team who have been trained by BMW. However Mr Archontidis told GoAutoNews Premium that more staff will be needed for the BMW and Mini brands.

He said that it wasn’t only the staff who were excited about becoming a BMW franchise.

“People in Glenelg who have heard about the change have been very supportive of having a luxury car brand in the area,” he said.

“Glenelg is an affluent beachside suburb that is the right location and has the perfect demographics for a BMW and Mini dealership.

“There is no other luxury car brand franchise in the area so I think that will also go a long way to making Glenelg BMW a success.”

The transition from Honda to BMW and Mini will be done in steps, with the revamp of the existing building now complete and the opening of the new franchise planned for September 1.

Mini will be added to the site in January before construction starts on a full redevelopment of the site, including new structures with larger showrooms and workshops, a month later.

The new dealership with BMW and Mini will then be opened in December 2022.

Mr Archontidis said the site spans some 7000 square metres and that the new development would triple the showroom to 15 cars for BMW and four for Mini, with a 170m street frontage.

The workshop will also grow to 18-20 hoists from the current 10-12.

“We will operate as a BMW franchise in the existing building and then continue to trade as the development goes up around us in three stages,” Mr Archontidis said.

JMG currently operates Waverley BMW, South Yarra BMW and Berwick BMW.
