KPMG Motor Industry Services is launching an automotive intelligence portal which it claims will transform the information and intelligence available to dealers and OEMs by providing current, forecasted and historical management data to business executives in real time.

The key attraction of the portal, KPMG says, is that rather than looking at the past, the system is able to utilise the information drawn from a wide range of data sources to extrapolate and forecast outcomes based on uploaded daily information.

Developed here in Australia and Canada, users of the system can also run scenarios to predict the results of planned operational changes within the business based on current data providing a true “what if” capability.

Dealers will use the system as their daily operating control with data on their desks in real time with an unprecedented level of analysis available throughout all levels of management.

Steve Bragg, a director of KPMG Enterprise, told GoAutoNews Premium: “Basing business decisions on something that has already happened is like steering a ship by looking at the wake.

“By bringing together historical, current and forecasted future customer and financial data it allows management up and down the operational chain to make better decisions.”

The portal allows all levels of management within the organisation to link their forecasted customer data with their historical facts to monitor the impact on day-to-day operations of the business to maximise their customer interactions on a daily basis.

“The benefit of the portal is that it pulls all of this data into one location. It is customisable to all levels and fully linked up and down the decision tree; so all levels of management can participate real-time in the process,” Mr Bragg said.

Known internally as the Single Source of Truth, KPMG has, during 2017, been forging relationships with the main providers of all of the key non-financial data and assembled an industry network that combines the various data sets into a fully integrated customer view of each business.

Mr Bragg said the portal, using the motor industry’s soft KPI data, will be able to follow the complete customer journey from first interaction with the customer, through to service and repurchase.

“With the integration of data from our industry networks servicing the automotive industry, our platform brings real-time financial and other industry-related soft data together so you can measure the true value of each customer to the business and allow dealers to maximise the customer experience at their dealerships,” Mr Bragg said.

Gary Ormond, a senior manager at KPMG, leader of the development of the Automotive Intelligence Portal at KPMG, told GoAuto News Premium: “The AI Portal will allow the users in dealerships and OEMs to utilise the data to make better decisions rather than spending all their time collecting and preparing reports.

“No longer will teams spend time preparing spreadsheets from many and varied data sources, it’s all in one place…with historical, current and forecasted data at their fingertips.”

How KPMG sees the advantages of its Automotive Intelligence Portal:

1. Personalised and customisable dashboards for all users of the portal based on the user’s authority levels.

2: Automatic, personalised report formats where customers can build and create their own reports and add these in a summary format on their dashboard as a widget.

3: Financial and non-financial data capabilities – more than just a financial reporting tool, the Automotive Intelligence Portal will have the ability to load non-financial data (CSI, SSI, target achievements, Autogate data, service retention data, VFACTS etc.) capturing customer information from the first visit to the purchase of a vehicle to the last service and repurchase.

4: Month-to-date (MTD) data will be captured through daily uploads (open data), so rather than focusing on historical data, the portal will be able to load MTD data and allow dealers to perform extrapolations of full month performances based on MTD performances. This means dealerships can have their daily operating control (DOC) being delivered in a single portal to all participants in the management team based on their business needs with the ability to forecast the month’s results using this information.

5: Budget to actual reporting, plus the ability to build and develop budgets online for single dealerships, groups of dealerships and full networks.

6: The ability to select and display the business own key “benchmarks”. Each user can define their view and their reports which adds flexibility to gain the insights management needs to improve their business operations.
