MERCEDES-BENZ is celebrating 25 years since launching its first Fashion Week Australia and will gear up in 2020 for a special edition of its annual ‘Mercedes-Benz Presents’ extravaganza.

The celebration event, to showcase past and present stars of fashion, will be called ‘Mercedes-Benz Presents: 25 Years of Australian Fashion’ and will be held on the evening of Monday, May 11, with two shows at Carriageworks, Sydney.

The first will be attended by trade and media, while a second show will for the first time invite consumers to purchase tickets to a major event on the fashion week schedule.

In a statement, Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific said tickets will be available to selected designer shows on the official five-day schedule, allowing people to attend seminars and special events, and have access to VIP packages via ‘Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia: The Experience’.

The signature celebration event – ‘Mercedes-Benz Presents: 25 Years of Australian Fashion’ – will pay homage to the iconic designers and moments from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia over the past 25 years.

“Attendees can expect a rollcall of Australian fashion luminaries, many of whom have propelled their careers from a coveted appearance in the iconic annual fashion showcase,” organisers said.

Event production company IMG has engaged creative director Tony Assness to oversee the show.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia started in 1996. The concept has since been replicated in dozens of countries around the world.

Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific CEO and managing director Horst von Sanden said: “The opportunities provided by Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia have launched many talented individuals and brands onto the world stage.

“We’re all looking forward to an exciting show in 2020 that will star some of the great names of the past 25 years and remind everyone what an accomplished fashion industry we have here in Australia,” he said.

IMG’s fashion events group executive director for the Asia-Pacific region, Natalie Xenita, said: “In its 25th year, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia will celebrate the talented individuals who have built an enduring and vibrant fashion industry, as well as those who are shaping its future.

“We are excited to commemorate the occasion with a spectacular tribute to the Australian fashion industry at MBFWA’s marquee event, Mercedes-Benz Presents,” she said.

Since the debut of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, Mercedes-Benz has extended its support for fashion across the world with editions of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week hosted in key locations around the globe.

The brand is currently active at around 80 fashion events in over 40 countries.

From its launch on May 11 at Carriageworks, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia will run in a variety of venues until May 15.

MBFWA is owned and operated by IMG, a global leader in fashion events and talent representation.
