NATIONAL vehicle service group, Mycar Tyre and Auto, has plugged into the electric vehicle market with eight sites now trained to work on EVs and another 22 planned to be in operation by August.

The push into EVs, which reflects growing electric vehicle sales, is supported by a training program from Kangan Institute’s Automotive Centre of Excellence in Victoria.

Kangan has already trained 35 Mycar technicians from around the country with more technicians planned to enter training. Mycar, formerly KMart Tyre and Auto, employs 1300 people in its 276 outlets.

Mycar managing director Adam Pay said the EV market was expanding “and we want to ensure our customers have a trusted auto expert ready to deliver quality service regardless of the vehicle they own – electric, hybrid, petrol or diesel.”

“Through Kangan Institute’s Automotive Centre of Excellence in Victoria, we have trained a dedicated team of technicians from various locations around Australia. They are ready to service and provide support to EV owners.

“In addition to this being a convenient and easy option for EV owners, it’s also an exciting time for our team as they have the opportunity to grow and develop new skills as the EV market expands.”

In addition to training technicians, Mycar is investing heavily in rolling out its EV network across Australia through enhancing store fit-outs, increasing the amount of in-store EV chargers, providing personal protective equipment and tools for technicians and ensuring all new safety requirements are met to protect both team members and customers.

From August 2022, Mycar EV servicing packages will be available across all 30 EV ready stores to supplement logbook servicing.

EV servicing will be complemented by all 276 Mycar stores which are already able to assist EV owners with general requirements such as tyres for their vehicles, along with wipers, globes and other components.

Mycar’s EV outlets include six in Victoria, seven in NSW, two in Tasmania, six in Queensland, three in South Australia, four in WA and two in the ACT.

The news follows up on the auto repair group partnering with AusMV to service and conduct warranty work on its Dodge, Ford and Ram pick-up trucks around Australia.

Mycar’s Adam Pay said the partnership would give AusMV customers the most extensive service and warranty network in Australia, coinciding with AusMV’s five-year/160,000-kilometre warranty and five-year roadside service program for all AusMV remanufactured vehicles.
