Aussie Michelin man: Manuel Montana has relocated to Bangkok to become Michelin Group’s new president for East Asia and Australia.

FRENCH tyre giant Michelin has appointed Manuel Montana as president for East Asia and Australia, replacing Lionel Dantiacq.

Mr Montana has worked for the Michelin Group since mid-2013, joining as European sales manager (mining) based in France before transferring to Turkey in September 2014 as commercial director.

He was subsequently promoted to managing director of the Turkish operations in August 2016.

The new position sees him relocate to Bangkok and report to executive vice-president Serge Lafon, who is in charge of specialties at the group (mining, off highway, two wheels, aircraft) and oversees a variety of regions including Africa, India and the Middle East (AIME), China and the East Asia/Australia branch.

Mr Montana, who is fluent in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese, said it was his “pleasure and honour” to take on the new role, vowing to “work in close collaboration” with the various offices across the region.

“I realise that my new roles and responsibilities come with tests and challenges at times, but I am ready to confront them with steadfast dedication,” he said.

“All my experiences and expertise during the years will be brought to ensure utmost benefits for Michelin in this region, and push forth the business to another level of success.”

Michelin has advised that Mr Dantiacq will take on a new position in the region, but this is subject to a separate announcement.
