PRESTIGE dealer Autosports Group is considering going public as part of its growth options.

The group, which runs 19 new and used-car operations in Sydney and Brisbane, was established 10 years ago but has a long history in the automotive industry through its directors Ian Pagent, his son Nick, and Dwyer Ogle.

While a spokesman for the group said no decision has been made on seeking a public listing through an initial public offering (IPO), it is experiencing strong growth in the luxury car market and is considering what business structure best suits the company.

A public listing would make Autosports Group only the third publically listed car retailer after Automotive Holdings Group (AHG) and AP Eagers in Australia.

Autosports Group has prestige franchises including Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Lamborghini and Volvo and also sells Volkswagen, Mazda, Honda and Fiat Chrysler.

It was awarded Audi’s Major Metro dealer of the year in 2015 – for the fourth consecutive year – a dealer of the year for Volkswagen in 2015 and was Mercedes-Benz dealer of the year for 2015.

The Pagents aren’t new to innovation. In 1998 Ian – while a director of Trivett Classic – operated the MG Garage in Sydney’s Surry Hills that contained a restaurant, combining food and car retailing under one roof.
