PORSCHE restomod company Singer Vehicle Design has unveiled two reimagined 911s created in collaboration with high-end fashion house Louis Vuitton.

The project has been inspired by Louis Vuitton’s “Art of travel” philosophy, with the two companies creating a co-branded item for the very first time.“The aim was to create a true synthesis between Singer’s architectural and timeless language and the Louis Vuitton culture, characterised by refined materials, travel and expression of style,” said Singer designer Octave Chany.

Featuring a saffron and a cobalt blue livery, with the former shade sourced from Louis Vuitton’s back catalogue, and cobalt blue demonstration tyres inspired by the designer brand’s packaging, the first collaboration vehicle was based on the Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer – Classic model. It is also equipped with a specially designed roof rack to accommodate a trunk, a surfboard or a pair of skis.

Louis Vuitton has had an extensive hand in its interior, with touches including VVT leather upholstery (one of Louis Vuitton’s most heavily used upholsteries), diamond-pattern embossing – emulating Louis Vuitton’s “malletage” motif found in its trunks – on the seats, front boot trim and engine compartment, and door handle edges which use Louis Vuitton’s edge-dyeing technique.

An exclusive capsule has also been created for the car, which includes (but isn’t limited to) a racing jacket, LV rally or LV Remix Derby shoes, a 1950s-inspired helmet bag (containing a bespoke helmet), a Louis Vuitton Keepall Bag, and two front trunk bags.

Led by Louis Vuitton’s artistic director of women’s collections Nicolas Ghesquière, the second collaboration vehicle is a 911 Classic Turbo Cabriolet. Painted in white, the exterior also features several wooden trim pieces, including on the bumpers, spoiler, and sides. The wood and leather interior trim has also been inspired by classic motorboats.

Like its sister car, the cabriolet also gets an exclusive capsule, including (but not limited to) a garment bag, a three-part trunk, a Keepall 45, a made-to-measure parachute silk suit, leather driving gloves, a Tambour automatic watch, and gold and acetate sunglasses.

The collaboration between Singer and Louis Vuitton gave Mr Ghesquière the opportunity to live his passion for automotive design.

“Automotive design is a passion that has always lived within me,” he said.

“My collaboration with Singer has been a chance to reconnect with this fascinating world – a magnificent opportunity to explore truly exceptional automobiles.”Ultimately it was a request for a detachable dashboard clock – inspired by the Tambour watch – capable of being converted to a desk clock, that brought the two high-end companies together according to Louis Vuitton’s watch director Jean Arnault.

“This unique and remarkable adventure began with a request for a dashboard clock for a car reimagined by Singer,” said Mr Arnault.

“In addition to the design and production of this clock by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton workshops in Switzerland, it quickly became apparent to us that this collaboration with Singer could extend to the personalisation of every functional element of the vehicle, enhancing them through our expertise in leather craftsmanship and watchmaking.”

Mr Arnault also explained that every department at Louis Vuitton contributed to the project in some way.

“With the creation of both cars, Louis Vuitton has, for the first time, drawn upon the full breadth of its savoir-faire, bringing together the expertise of every House métier in a unique and exclusive automotive project,” he added. “Every department at Louis Vuitton has contributed to this unprecedented cross-disciplinary endeavour, from trunk makers and leather goods artisans to the fashion and footwear teams, and even the watchmakers from La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton.”

Singer’s founder and executive chairman Rob Dickinson said bringing the two organisations together “was a joy”.

“The specifications chosen by Louis Vuitton exposed us to techniques and methods developed over decades of experience,” said Mr Dickinson.

“They trusted us with their esteemed brand, their traditions and their vision and it was a joy to bring our two worlds together.”
