Sean Seamer

SUPERCARS is to get a new boss as MediaCom Australia CEO Sean Seamer agrees to join the touring-car racing business.

But Mr Seamer will not be joining Supercars – and replacing outgoing CEO James Warburton – until June next year.

Mr Seamer will be the seventh CEO at Supercars since its establishment in 1997 and the sixth in nine years.

He is a New Zealander by birth and is a former amateur Porsche racer. He started with MediaCom in 2002 and has worked in overseas offices before being appointed to head of the Australasian operations in 2015.

MediaCom Australia is one of the country’s leading media agencies with more than $1.4 billion in annual billings and more than 350 staff across its Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane offices.

Mr Seamer’s appointment coincides with executive shufflings in Supercars including the exit of its managing director Matt Braid at the end of this season.

Supercars is a part of capital equity company Archer Capital that also owns Autopact (formerly Cricks) automotive group.

Mr Warburton, who has been appointed chief executive of APN Outdoor, leaves at the end of the year.

Supercars Commission chairman Steve Horne has also signalled he will leave the organisation when a replacement is found, according to online race site Speedcafe.

Supercars TV boss Simon Fordham will also leave at the end of the season and be replaced with Nathan Prendergast.

Supercars was valued at about $300 million when Archer Capital bought a 60 per cent share for about $180 million in 2011. It was believed to be for sale earlier this year but a buyer could not be found.
