THE new financial year has seen vehicles sales figures return to something more like normal after the typical June peak.

Toyota’s HiLux is Australia’s most popular vehicle with 3742 sales in July, down from 5461 the previous month. The Corolla is up one spot to second with 3208 cars finding new homes, some 622 less than the previous month.

Ford’s Ranger came in third place with 3076 sales, almost 2000 down on June.

Hyundai’s Accent made the biggest gain, up from 22nd place to 11th on the back of selling 1642 units.

The biggest loser was Nissan’s Navara which dropped from 15th to 30th with 958 units sold.

The competition to be Australia’s most popular for calendar year 2017 looks set to be a two horse race between the HiLux and Ranger. Year-to-date, the HiLux is ahead 27,120 sales compared with 24,714.

The Corolla is just over 2000 sales behind in third place but could spring a surprise in the unlikely event that Aussie car buyers fall out of love with their utes.
