TOYOTA has announced that it will extend its long-standing partnership of the Adelaide Crows Football Club to its newly-formed women’s team, ahead of the historic debut season of the Australian Football League Women’s (AFLW) this year.

The partnership will see Toyota represented at all four of the Crows’ home games for the women’s 2017 and 2018 season, after it was announced in June last year that Toyota would renew its partnership with the men’s team through to the end of the 2019 season.

By the time the men’s deal expires, Toyota will have been the major sponsor for the Crows for 29 years, dating back to 1991 when it first entered the AFL.

The partnership has lasted so long that more than half the men on Adelaide’s list weren’t even born when it started.

While Toyota will play a role in the sponsorship of the AFLW team, it will not be its major sponsor – that honour goes to non-profit employment, health and disability services provider Workskil Australia.

Crows CEO Andrew Fagan said the partnership between the club and Toyota is only getting stronger with the inclusion of the women’s team sponsorship.

“Toyota’s long-term commitment to the club has been instrumental to our success on and off the field and we’re delighted that they have extended their support to our women’s team in its first season,” he said.

“For more than 25 years we have worked closely with Toyota to the benefit of both organisations and it’s extremely pleasing to have their backing for the AFL Women’s competition.”

Toyota Australia executive director sales and marketing Tony Cramb reiterated that the sponsorship would continue to strengthen the bond between the two organisations.

“We’re proud to continue to strengthen our relationship with the Adelaide Crows and now support the women’s team in addition to our existing partnership with the men’s team – an opportunity we happily welcome,” he said.

Toyota has been the country’s best-selling brand since 2003, and the most popular in South Australia since 2007.

The inaugural game for the women’s Crows kicks off on February 4 against the Greater Western Sydney Giants at Adelaide’s Thebarton Oval.
