A LAVERTON North property owned by Toyota associate Toyota Boshoku Australia has been placed on the market following the closure of the business’ automotive interior components manufacturing plant.

No price has been listed for the vacant 5.73 hectare property that supplied components for the vehicles made at Toyota Australia’s Victorian assembly and manufacturing facilities.

Agents Savills Melbourne said the property could be sold or leased and that it would be attractive to numerous industrial uses.

 

The Boundary Road property includes a warehouse covering about 18,000 square metres, a large 314-car parking area, and an 1880 square metre office open-plan office area including boardrooms, meeting rooms, breakout room and reception area.

It also has a 200m road frontage, three access points for B-double trucks, multiple roller doors, fire sprinkler system, a back-up 3000kVA power supply, heating and cooling throughout the offices and warehouse, and a 32-tonne capacity gantry.

It has easy access to the M1 and the M80 Western Ring Road and is within 17km of Melbourne’s CBD, Melbourne Airport and the Port of Melbourne.

Agents Savills said the land has 2.2 hectares that can still be developed, subject to council approval.

The Toyota affiliates that have closed in line with the end of domestic vehicle manufacturing include the the Toyota Altona car manufacturing plant, safety and interior component maker Toyoda Gosei Australia, Toyota Boshoku Australia and Denso Automotive Systems Australia.

Toyota Boshoku Australia started in 2002 supplying seats, cabin trim and some exterior items. It closed on October 3, 2017 – the same day as Toyota’s last Camry was produced at the Altona plant – after four years of preparation to exit its local manufacturing operation.

Manufacturing equipment at the site was in August last year put under the gavel at a global auction. Equipment not sold at the auction remains available through Grays Online and Hilco.
