David started as a motor racing specialist, becoming editor of Auto Action at the age of just 22 working alongside John Mellor who was then editor of sister publication Motor Manual, both of which were owned by The Melbourne Age.

David joined John Mellor in 1990 as part of the editorial team producing the weekly Automotive Business section of The Australian which was a joint enterprise between Mellor and News Limited.

He moved on in 1993 and founded Motorsport News and subsequently Car News. David rejoined GoAuto in 2005 as a senior writer.

He has written a number of books including Peter Brock’s authorised biography.

He has contributed to Motor Manual, Car Australia, The Australian, and The Age.
