ITALIAN supercar builder Lamborghini has stepped into a partnership with luxury footwear maker Tod’s.
The marketing tie-up follows in the footsteps of McLaren which last year notably linked its name with a new line of sneakers in a partnership with Los Angeles-based APL footwear.
Like McLaren, the Tod’s Lamborghini footwear line draws inspiration from Lamborghini styling cues and colours with additional input from Tod’s.
Strong synergies exist between Lamborghini and Tod’s. Both are considered super luxury brands and both companies are based in Italy catering for the upper end of the global market.
The two companies said in a joint statement: “Having near parallel brand philosophies, the collaboration progressed in a natural direction guided by both Lamborghini and Tod’s design pillars to create a special collection.”
The first footwear collection made under the collaboration is said to “celebrate craftsmanship and innovation” and is called Tod’s for Automobili Lamborghini. It kicks off with the launch of a men’s and women’s footwear collection featuring two models, the Tod’s Gommino and a sneaker produced in colours inspired by the two brands.
Tod’s has fashioned the Gommino in a new design that echoes the livery of Lamborghini’s super sports cars with tubular banding increasing the aerodynamic appeal and “creating movement and elegance”.
On the soles, the characteristic Tod’s ‘pebbles’ take on the colour of the heel or upper. Tod’s says the leather used is sourced from the world’s best tanneries and that the production process required a high level of craftsmanship with the cutting and stitching of the leather done by hand.
“This resulted in a new range of footwear that elevates design, performance, technology, and construction in the luxury footwear category,” Tod’s said in a press statement.
The partners say the footwear collection will be the first step in a project that will also include leather goods and clothing collections which both partners claim defines new boundaries of Italian style.
