THIS year’s Australian Automobile Dealer Association (AADA) convention is set to address the impact that fast-moving technology is having on the local automotive retailing industry.

The convention, scheduled for September 19 and 20 at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Sydney, will feature former federal treasurer and current chairman of Nine Entertainment Corporation Peter Costello as a keynote speaker.

Other guest presenters will include federal minister for urban infrastructure Paul Fletcher, Google Australia head of Automotive Cathy Collins, DrivingSales founder Jared Hamilton, Deloitte Motor Industry Services partner Philip Hardy and Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) chairman Rod Sims.

According to the AADA, the convention will consist of “a program of workshops and guest speakers designed to help dealers and key staff adapt to the rapidly changing pace of technological advancement and its impact on our industry”.

One such program will detail the effects of social media platforms including Facebook and Google reviews on a customer’s choice of where to buy a vehicle and explain the need to maintain a strong and reputable online presence.

Other programs will focus on hiring women and attracting female buyers, understanding digital technology and it’s potential for personalisation, employee retention, creating customer loyalty, used-car sales and how to incorporate video into the sales process.

AADA CEO David Blackhall said: “As usual, we have put together an outstanding program of compelling and inspiring speakers, experts in all aspects of dealership operations, marketing, new technology and media, business, and the world at large.”
