Mr Barclay was previously general manager at Toyoda Gosei Australia, a joint venture between Toyoda Gosei Japan and Bridgestone formed in 1997 that provided a variety of components for the Australian automotive manufacturing sector but closed its operations last year in conjunction with the end of local car manufacturing.
Mr Barclay had worked his way up through the ranks over a 20 year-period, serving in various roles including product engineer (when the company was known as Bridgestone Toyoda Gosei), technical and sales manager, sales and business development manager and, from 2012, general manager with responsibility for sales, human resources, engineering, finance and automotive sealing operations.
Bridgestone Australia/NZ managing director Andrew Moffatt described Mr Barclay as “a fantastic addition” to the leading tyre company.
“He is a highly respected member of the Australian automotive industry and, following the closure of Toyoda Gosei, we were keen to have him join our already great team,” Mr Moffatt said.
“Doug was closely involved in the relationship with Toyota, and with qualifications in engineering and business administration he has a strong understanding of manufacturing and business processes.”
