Renault Australia managing director Andrew Moore

ALPINE will sell its A110 sportscar from just a single dealership based out of Renault Brighton’s facilities in Melbourne, but plans are in place to add an additional outlet in Sydney as more stock becomes available next year.

Speaking to journalists at the reborn French brand’s local introduction at Motorclassica last week in Melbourne, Renault Australia managing director Andrew Moore said initial sales of the limited-run A110 Australian Premiere Edition will be handled by the sole outlet.

“We’re selling all around the country from Melbourne,” he said. “We’re managing some logistics there, we want to make the experience very special, so we’ve offered to customers to fly them to Melbourne on our cost, to put them up, deliver the car and they can drive them back. If that’s not what they want to do, we can discuss other options.”

Having made its local debut in Melbourne, Mr Moore said the A110 will now go on tour around the country with test drives strictly by appointment only, with just 60 examples of the Australian Premiere Edition available.

Next year, sales of the Pure and Legende grades will commence, but allocation is pegged at about 100 units to the end of 2019.

However, while sales of the Alpine A110 will be taken care of by the sole retail outlet, Mr Moore said servicing and maintenance will be undertaken by dealers around the country as “we will have authorised service outlets in each state”.

As for more Alpine stores, Mr Moore said the brand will double its footprint with another store likely to materialise in Sydney, but the decision is dependent on its unique sales experience.

“We will definitely go one more dealership; we’re talking to some dealers in Sydney,” he said. “The important thing for us is that the sales team are absolute enthusiasts and specialists on this vehicle, and that the customer gets the right unique experience around Alpine.

“Mark (Avis, Renault Brighton general manager) and the team at Brighton are right on board with that. So, based on the limited volume, we can’t have too many dealers providing that level of experience, so two is the max.”

As previously reported, the reborn Alpine A110 will kick off from $97,000 before on-road costs for the Pure, $103,500 for the Legende and $106,500 for the Australian Premiere Edition.

All three variants send drive to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and a mid-mounted 1.8-litre turbo-petrol engine developing 185kW of power and 320Nm of torque.

Zero to 100km/h acceleration is pegged at 4.5 seconds, while the A110 is limited to a top speed of 250km/h.

The Alpine A110 will line up against the likes of the Porsche Cayman, Audi TT and BMW M2 when first deliveries hit later this month.
