AusCycling has appointed Agostino (Ag) Giramondo to the newly-formed role of general manager of commercial, member and club development, effective March 1.

He will be responsible for looking at commercial opportunities for the sport from grassroots to elite.

Mr Giramondo, a highly experienced executive, comes to AusCycling with a strong commercial and stakeholder management background having held senior roles with News Corp and most recently carsales.com.au where he was general manager of OEM and industry relations.

He joins the AusCycling executive team with a strong background in cycling, having been president of one of the country’s largest clubs, the Brunswick Cycling Club, for the past five years.

AusCycling chief executive Marne Fechner said: “Ag not only brings a passion and knowledge of the sport, but strong commercial and leadership experience.”

“Building a successful commercial program and thriving club network will underpin our future growth and success as a sport.”

Mr Giramondo said he was excited to be joining not only a new team, but a new organisation.

“It’s an opportunity to be part of something meaningful and special,” he said.

“I love all sport, but cycling is my sport. My family has been involved in cycling for over 70 years and I see the power of the bike every day.

“Riding a bike gives us a reason to connect, to lower our guard and to build relationships that stand the test of time.

“I am looking forward to working with Marne, the executive team, the state GMs and clubs to build a stronger and larger network that is a compelling proposition to cyclists and commercial partners.

“If we get this right, we can take our sport to new heights in both participation and financial support. We have to believe we can do this.”

AusCycling was formed in October 2020, on the back of one of Australian sport’s largest governance reforms and the merger of BMX Australia, Mountain Bike Australia and Cycling Australia. It now represents more than 52,000 members and a community of over four million cyclists.
