TASMANIA’S sole Hino dealership, FRM Hino, has been taken over by experienced Tasmanian automotive professional Edward Jones.

FRM Hino – which has dealerships in Launceston, Hobart and Devonport – started in 1982 and recently renovated and rejuvenated its three premises.

Mr Jones was previously the chief operating officer and a director of Local Motor Group, part of the Tony White Group.

He said that after an 18-year career in passenger cars, including as a former Toyota dealer principal, he was “excited to join and lead the FRM team and join the Hino brand.”

“The future is really exciting for FRM Hino,” he said.

“We have an excellent team in place that will continue to deliver exceptional levels of service to our customers.

“For me, as a born and bred Tasmanian, this is a chance to be a part of a culture and team that is committed to its local community.”

The former owners of FRM Hino have, over the past seven years, relocated all three FRM branches in Hobart, Launceston and Devonport to new and improved premises.

The last was Hobart which was relocated in 2020 to a purpose-built site with 2750 square metres of floor space and 20 service bays.

FRM Hino’s managing director at that time, David Mills, said when the business started in 1982, its focus was primarily on the forklift industry.

“As we have transformed to truck sales and service business, it has been necessary to improve our premises accordingly,” he said.

The dealership was Hobart’s only truck showroom. Mr Mills, who retired in July, said that the new premises and the management of new sales manager Troy Wood, were responsible for an increase in sales by 30 per cent year-on-year since it opened in November 2020.

Mr Jones said that with his takeover of the dealership, there were “still some exciting opportunities ahead.”

“We are currently in the planning phase for a workshop extension in Launceston to increase the service bay capacity,” he said.

Hino Australia’s vice president of brand and franchise development, Richard Emery, said Mr Jones brings a wealth of experience and professionalism to the Hino team.

“Tasmania remains an important market for Hino with tourism, mining, agriculture and other primary industries presenting opportunities within the light, medium and heavy-duty segments,” Mr Emery said.

“I would also like to pay tribute to former managing director David Mills and the other former owners of the business for their dedication and passion to the Hino brand and business over the last 14 years.”

Hino Australia has over 65 dealerships and services centres nationwide.
