GEELY Auto founder Li Shufu, who started the company 40 years ago, has resigned as chair. He will be succeeded by An Conghui. 

Mr Li has been appointed honorary chair for life of Geely Auto, but the new role removes him from the company’s corporate governance structure.

Geely said the move will enable Mr Li to devote more time to his other businesses and help with succession planning. He will continue to be the controlling shareholder in Geely Auto.

Mr Li also will continue to serve as chair of parent Zhejiang Geely Holding Group with oversight over the auto empire that includes Volvo, Lotus and Polestar brands.

Geely has also announced that Gan Jiayue will be appointed as CEO of the Hong Kong-listed subsidiary of Geely Holding, taking over Mr An’s role. 

Geely Auto will also get a new vice chair and CEO with Gui Shengyue succeeding Daniel Li as vice chair. Daniel Li will remain an executive director at Geely Auto. 

Mr Gui, who was previously Geely Auto CEO, will be replaced by Gan Jiayue, who was previously an executive director.

Geely Auto’s brands include Zeekr, Geely and Lynk & CO. 

Mr An’s appointment as chair marks a shift away from a family-centred management model, Mr Gui told a news conference.  

“The company will no longer depend on individual charisma or authority, but instead on organisational systems and a structured talent pipeline,” Mr Gui said, adding that the changes would support more professional decision-making.
