Porsche Cars Australia has been confirmed as the official automotive partner of the 2023 Sydney Marathon, presented by ASICS, with its Taycan EV to lead the course for the running of the men’s and women’s full marathons.

Taycan will also carry the Sydney Marathon’s official race clocks for the complete duration of the 42.2 kilometre classic.

Porsche Cars Australia (PCA) said its support for the Sydney Marathon was an important opportunity to showcase the Taycan sportscar’s clean-air credentials.

The all-electric Taycan also led the 2022 marathon with front-runners enjoying a comparatively quiet journey and PCA said that the leading competitors at this year’s event can expect the same breath of fresh air.

PCA managing director and CEO Daniel Schmollinger said: “The Sydney Marathon is a fitting place to showcase Porsche e-performance and the abilities of the Taycan. Its mix of Porsche sports car DNA and zero tailpipe emissions makes it the perfect athlete to run at the front.”

Running at the front is a key theme for Porsche in 2023 with the brand celebrating its 75th year. PCA said that its association with the Sydney Marathon echoes the underpinning drive that symbolises the essential character of Porsche: dreams.

“We’re inspired by those who dare to dream. Constantly beating our benchmarks drives us and it’s a company-wide hallmark that aligns with every runner who will be out to beat their own records in Sydney this September,” Mr Schmollinger said.

The 2023 Sydney Marathon attracts more than 40,000 participants from over 60 countries. This year’s event takes place on Sunday September 17 with the official start time at 7:10am.

Meanwhile, the announcement of the marathon support coincided with the official opening of Australia’s latest Destination Porsche venue, the all-new Porsche Centre Perth.

The event welcomed Porsche owners and enthusiasts through its doors in a joint celebration of Porsche’s 75th anniversary and the centre’s official grand opening.

Porsche Centre Perth dealer principal Sam Hodges said: “It is exciting to open Australia’s newest Destination Porsche centre.

“It’s a privilege to represent the next generation of Porsche sports cars in Perth and redefine the Porsche experience for owners, enthusiasts and customers.”

The brand-new centre in the Perth northern suburbs prestige-car strip on Osborne Park is operated by Eagers Automotive and adjoins a new Bentley showroom.

“Porsche Centre Perth commenced more than 20 years ago and has a very supportive local community.

“This year marks Porsche’s 75th anniversary and we look forward to welcoming everyone – our customers, supporters, and all motorsport enthusiasts – to the new home of Porsche Centre Perth in Osborne Park, Western Australia’s central Porsche hub.”
