A KEY tool in educating professionals for Australia’s automotive industry needs volunteers to assist in its annual competition event at Calder Park Raceway.
The Society of Automotive Engineers Australasia’s (SAE-A) Formula SAE-A is an educational competition established in 2000, where university teams design, build, and race small formula-style vehicles.
The event, held annually in December, is about enhancing university education by bringing industry into the classroom. It provides students with a hands-on platform to apply their engineering knowledge and develop essential skills in management, teamwork, and problem-solving.
It attracts participants from universities worldwide and helps prepare students for careers in the mobility and transport technologies sector by connecting them with potential employers.
The competition also emphasises innovation, including challenges related to autonomous vehicle design.
But it needs help from the automotive industry in its ‘Call for Volunteers’ for the Formula SAE-A 2024 event at Calder Park from December 5 to December 8.
The society said that as a not-for-profit membership organisation it was looking for support from the industry and that volunteers played an essential role in the success of the race event, ensuring its smooth operation and providing valuable support to the teams. The event attracts up to 800 students who all appreciate the encouragement and feedback from industry volunteers.
“We are looking for volunteers who have a good level of technical, industry and business expertise,” the society said.
“We provide on-the-job training, a commemorative polo shirt and meals. Volunteers can help us for one day, or two or three or for the whole four-days, whatever you can.”
