ENERGY provider AGL is now offering an electric vehicle subscription service in South Australia, extending its program that already provides the service in Victoria, NSW and Queensland.

AGL has six EVs – Tesla Model 3, Nissan Leaf, Hyundai Ioniq and Kona, MG ZS EV and Kia eNiro – available in addition to the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.

Its latest to be added to the list is the MG that costs $235 a week under the plan with prices up to $340 a week for the Tesla, eNiro and Kona.

AGL now plans to add other EVs including the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Nissan Leaf e+ and BYD E6.

The energy company embarked on its subscription service for EVs following subsidies offered by some state governments.

The latest is South Australia after the state this month announced a new, increased $3000 up-front incentive for EV buyers. SA has also delayed the introduction of its proposed EV road user charge by up to five years, now planned for July 1, 2027.

AGL executive general manager of future business and technology, John Chambers, said: “AGL is committed to making EVs more accessible, breaking down the common barriers of cost and charging installation.

“With plans for the SA Government to increase the uptake of EVs and smart charging by 2025, we believe now is a great time for customers to test the benefits of EVs.”

Mr Chambers said the AGL service gave choice and flexibility and allowed customers to swap, upgrade or cancel the contract at any time.

The subscription service also included registration, insurance, tyres, repairs, roadside assistance, the optional installation of an EV charger and carbon neutral credits as part of the subscription.

“We want to see all Australians driving their way to a more sustainable future and by doing so creating a better, cleaner tomorrow for us all,” he said.

South Australia joins NSW, Victoria, Tasmania and the Northern Territory in announcing EV subsidies that aim to improve the electric vehicle adoption rate in Australia.

AGL said EV sales in Australia now represent 1.57 per cent of new light vehicle sales “which is a higher adoption rate than any other previous calendar year in Australia.”
