AUTOSPORTS Group Ltd has announced the retirement of its chairman and independent non-executive director Tom Pockett.

He will be replaced by James Evans, recently elected as an independent non-executive director, who will become chairman of ASG from December 1 this year.

Mr Pockett joined ASG when the company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange in 2016 to become Australia’s third publicly listed vehicle retailer, joining AP Eagers (now Eagers Automotive) and Automotive Holdings Group Ltd (AHG, now part of Eagers).

In a statement, ASG CEO Nick Pagent said: “Tom’s leadership and guidance during the group’s early years as a listed entity helped steer the business through multiple business acquisitions, navigate the COVID-19 pandemic and established the group’s governance framework.”

On Mr Evans, Mr Pagent said: “James has over 40 years’ experience including 30 years in banking and financial services.”

“James has held the position of chairman and ME Bank and Suncorp Portfolio Services Limited and is currently the chairman of Pendal Group Limited.

“James brings extensive experience as a listed chairman which will ensure a smooth transition into 2022.”

Mr Evans is also a director of Investa Property Group and holds a bachelor of economics from Macquarie University.
