Venture capital: Mr Bulmer said he is looking forward to his next venture after five years executing the expansion plans at Bauer Trader Media’s motoring stable.

BAUER Media’s general manager of motoring Ged Bulmer has resigned from his position and will leave the media company on December 20 to “pursue other opportunities”.

The experienced motoring journalist, editor and publishing executive will step down after five years overseeing the motoring brands in the Bauer stable, having signed on in August 2013 as managing editor of Bauer Trader Motoring and, a year later, stepping up to general manager and associate publisher.

Mr Bulmer was responsible for a broad range of titles such as Wheels and Motor – publications he edited some years earlier when they were under ACP ownership – as well as Street Machine, Unique Cars, 4×4 Australia, Australian Motorcycle News, Australasian Dirt Bike and Motorcycle Trader.

He came to Bauer after a short stint running his own automotive media company and, prior to that, two years as managing editor of Carsguide.

Bauer Media general manager of publishing Terry King announced Mr Bulmer’s resignation last week and thanked him for his “significant contribution” to the company, including its forthcoming WhichCar TV project which goes to air on Channel 10 in January.

“I would like to thank Ged for his strong leadership and great strategic direction during an important period of transformation and growth at Bauer Trader Media,” Mr King said.

“Ged’s skills and expertise as a publisher have helped ensure Bauer’s motoring titles consistently delivered above-trend circulation performance and strong readership growth in successive Roy Morgan surveys.

“During his tenure, Ged’s influence extended beyond print and into our digital business, where he was a leader in developing and implementing new editorial systems and processes that have helped deliver the impressive audience growth we’ve achieved.”

Bauer Media commercial director Matt Rice added that Mr Bulmer’s influence “will be sorely missed”.

“Ged’s reputation and contacts in the motoring space are without peer and his background as an editor and content creator means he’s second to none when it comes to the business of commercialising content,” he said.

Mr Bulmer said he was proud of his achievements at Bauer and was looking forward to a short break with family “before embarking on my next venture”.
