MOTORONE, Australia’s leading aftermarket car-care specialist, has reached a milestone $5 million in contributions to the Cancer Council, raised in conjunction with participating dealerships from the sale of Cancer Council-endorsed automotive window films.

Along with its vehicle surface protection, Protektiv HYDRO, MotorOne, the largest importer and distributor of films in Australia, is widely known in dealerships for its high-quality automotive window tinting films.

Due to the valuable ‘protection’ role window films can make in reducing UV exposure of drivers and passengers, the Cancer Council has endorsed a range of MotorOne’s window films.

One of the most important selling points of these films is that every sale helps the Cancer Council to continue its work in cancer research, education and support services for people affected by cancer.

The contribution has enabled MotorOne, in conjunction with participating dealerships, to reach the very significant milestone of generating more than $5 million for the Cancer Council.

Greg Lewis and Sanchia Aranda

MotorOne was the first-ever business to become a licensee of the Cancer Council with the relationship initiated in 2002 in Victoria. This has since evolved into a national licensing agreement.

Referring to MotorOne’s milestone contribution, Professor Sanchia Aranda, chief executive officer of Cancer Council Australia, said: “The funds you have helped to raise have been invested in our organisation’s skin cancer control initiatives which continue to be a critical area of our work.

“Australia continues to have the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, along with our New Zealand neighbours, and so every dollar invested in skin cancer control helps to address this important problem.”

The Cancer Council undertakes stringent testing and evaluation for all endorsed products. Cancer Council window films have been independently tested by ARPANSA (Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency) resulting in the highest achievable UPF rating of 50+. There are three films in MotorOne’s Cancer Council-endorsed films range: UV Shield, Darkest Legal, and Clear.

Greg Lewis, managing director of MotorOne, told GoAutoNews Premium: “In addition to the $5 million contributed, MotorOne is active in promoting the work of the Cancer Council and further fundraising initiatives.

“The staff at MotorOne host various events throughout the year, both at head office and in each state, and also support dealers who host events such as Daffodil Day, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, where MotorOne gets together as a business to raise additional funds which are also channelled back to the Cancer Council.

“These are additional contributions over and above the $5 million raised to date and are an example of the extra commitment our business makes to ensure we’re supporting the Cancer Council as they work towards a cancer-free future.”

The Cancer Council is driven by its vision of a cancer-free future, and the numbers show. In the 1980s, the cancer survival rate was less than 50 per cent. Today, almost seven in 10 Australians will survive for at least five years after a cancer diagnosis and in some cancers the survival is as high as 90 per cent.

As part of next-generation support marketing for Cancer Council collateral, MotorOne has designed a flyer to be shared with dealers as a sales support tool, demonstrating the impact of the Cancer Council’s work in the community.

The flyer details how each year the Cancer Council’s National SunSmart Schools Program is helping to protect over two million Australian children from harmful UV rays, reducing their risk of cancer in the future.

In 2017, the Cancer Council contributed almost $60 million together with its research partners towards world-class cancer research across Australia and its services were used nearly 250,000 times by Australians affected by cancer.

In addition, in 2018:

  • More than 41,000 callers received information and support from Cancer Council 13 11 20 staff.
  • 106,725 nights of subsidised accommodation were provided to those having to travel to treatment.
  • There were almost 5,000,000 online visits to access cancer information and support.
  • Almost $5.2 million worth of free legal and financial advice was provided to 1574 people affected by cancer by the Cancer Council’s network of pro bono advisers.

Mr Lewis said: “We hope that dealers will find the flyer beneficial and that the information and Cancer Council endorsement increases awareness and helps dealers sell more window film.

“Being able to utilise the iconic Cancer Council brand in marketing material gives consumers a credible and relatable reason to purchase from this range. It’s a very simple and easy way to support a worthy cause.”

MotorOne also strongly recommends that due to the rise in popularity of SUVs (which sees more glass in vehicles and therefore increases the risk of exposure to damaging UV rays) that all car buyers consider window film at time of vehicle purchase.

The company says that benefits include:

  • Reduced UV exposure associated with increased risk of skin cancer.
  • UPF 50+ protection-rated film gives all the family maximum protection.
  • Up to 60 per cent glare reduction for safer driving.
  • Helps hold shattered glass together in the event of an accident.
  • Clear, uninterrupted viewing, day and night, for safer driving.
  • Lifetime warranty for peace of mind (conditions and exclusions apply).

Professor Aranda said of MotorOne’s contribution: “Every day, we support people affected by cancer when they need it most, we speak out on behalf of the community on cancer issues, we empower people to reduce their cancer risk and we find new ways to better detect and treat cancer.

“We couldn’t do what we do without you, and it is with your help that we are getting closer to a cancer-free future every minute, every hour, every day.”
