He was previously director of communications for General Motors Africa and Middle East (AMEO), based in Dubai.
Mr Poppitt was Holden’s PR boss from February 2015 to January 2018 before becoming director of communications for GM Southeast Asia until July 2019.
He was then promoted internally to the region’s director of marketing, communications and customer experience.
Prior to joining Holden in April 2012, Mr Poppitt was senior corporate communications executive at Audi Australia. He was previously a journalist with Wheels magazine for almost five years, lastly as news and road test editor.
At Holden he started as product communications manager in Melbourne and then became the brand’s corporate affairs manager for South Australia and Western Australia.
He was then promoted to senior manager for Holden corporate communications in September 2014 and afterwards moved to the top PR role with Holden.
In his most recent role at GM AMEO, he was responsible for strategising and executing all internal and external communications across the business and GM’s brands, including Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC and OnStar.
He was responsible for ensuring synergy between all facets of the business as well as with GM global headquarters to deliver impactful campaigns that will resonate across the region.

“My career with GM has taken me around the world, given me experiences I never thought possible, exposed me to some incredible mentors and teachers and allowed me to pursue my passion in one of the world’s most dynamic industries.
“I’m grateful for all of it – the good, the bad and the ugly – and can’t wait to take on this new chapter in Detroit.”
